Cuisine collective le Blé d’Or
Over the past few years, the organization has observed two major changes with regard to kitchen groups. A growing number of people with average family incomes need the services of collective kitchens to make ends meet. And new clienteles have been added and are staying for long periods: low-income workers, retirees, single people.
Collective kitchens present an interesting model, as they intervene in a number of areas: access to healthy, economical meals, culinary and budgetary education, awareness of healthy lifestyle habits, a support network, and so on. They give people the means to increase their power over their lives and improve their social and economic conditions, as well as their health.
Through healthy lifestyle workshops offered at the organization’s premises and in several primary and secondary schools, participants learn how to make good food choices, plan a balanced menu on a limited budget, and acquire skills that help break the cycle of poverty.
