The Stop Community Food Centre
The Stop was one of the first food banks established in Canada in the 1980s.
Since then, the organization has evolved into a true community center where neighbors participate in a wide range of programs that provide healthy food, foster social connections, develop food skills and encourage civic engagement.
The Stop has developed a “nothing about us, without us” approach, which means that the team works collaboratively with its service users to understand and identify their needs, their priorities.
The organization is very much involved in the various consultative bodies linked to food and food safety.
The Stop’s actions focus on empowering people by enabling them to develop their culinary skills and make better food choices. It also enables them to forge social links with their fellow citizens and break down isolation.
