Le PAS de la rue
The PAS de la rue takes a comprehensive approach to supporting people experiencing homelessness, from meeting them on the street to social and residential reintegration, including stages of socialisation and stabilisation. The lack of social housing exacerbates the vulnerability of people in precarious situations, blurring the line between precariousness and homelessness. Older people are particularly affected, with frontline organisations reporting a significant increase in their needs.
Homeless people often have more serious and earlier health problems than average. A study by the University of Montreal (2018) reveals that diseases such as Alzheimer’s and arthritis appear 10 to 15 years earlier in homeless people. Their needs are therefore becoming more complex, combining low income, limited access to care, addiction and ageing.
In the face of these challenges, appropriate and sustainable psychosocial support is essential. However, the resources available are often insufficient or overwhelmed, limiting their effectiveness. This highlights the urgent need to strengthen support mechanisms, improve coordination between stakeholders and develop innovative solutions.
