Médecins du monde Canada
In 2011, Doctors of the World opened the only front-line medical clinic in Montreal dedicated solely to migrants with precarious status who are not covered by Quebec health insurance or the interim federal health program.
Thirteen years after its creation, the Clinic is known and recognized by the people themselves, by partner community organizations, by the Direction de la santé publique de Montréal, by the Ville de Montréal, by the academic and research community, and by the Réseau de la santé et des services sociaux. The latter regularly calls on the Doctors of the World clinical team to sit on working committees, share its expertise and contribute to the development of interventions and services that meet the needs of this population.
In addition to care, Doctors of the World provides legal and social support. Since 2022, the Clinic has included two migrant peers, whose experiential knowledge makes it possible to offer a culturally more appropriate and safer space for the clientele reached.
The Foundation is proud to support the Clinic’s work, particularly in the area of reproductive health for women and children without access to health insurance.
