Orchestre métropolitain
The Orchestre Métropolitain (OM), formed by local musicians in 1981, has been privileged to have one of the world’s most talented conductors, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, at the helm for nearly 25 years. The OM aims to be the ambassador of a human vision of the 21st-century symphony orchestra, of excellence that is accessible and open. In autumn 2019, Yannick Nézet-Séguin’s contract is renewed for life, an unprecedented commitment for a symphony orchestra.
The OM also emphasizes inclusion by inviting soloists and conductors who represent the cultural diversity of our society, and by programming works by composers from minority groups who have been neglected in the history of music.
Finally, OM’s mission is to awaken children’s interest in music, cultivate a passion for music in young people, and support up-and-coming musicians. Through its many cultural and educational initiatives, such as school activities, its OMNI music competition and its Academy of Conducting, the Orchestra forges an engaging relationship with its community, young and old alike.
